Seeing Optometry Differently

Optomeyes is a wholly Tasmanian owned practice, operating twelve practices and eight visiting locations around the state, focussing on high quality eyecare and eyewear for Tasmanians, Tasmanian businesses and industry.

Our mission is to be a world class provider of the full range of eyecare needs with the support of our well established brands and services.  We are committed to independent optometry and to providing a lifetime of healthy vision for you our client through high quality professional services as well as the latest eyecare technology and products. In doing this we strive to create a positive experience for all who come into contact with our practice and to improving the quality of life for our patients, professional team, and the community that we serve.

We pursue international best practice and compare favourably when benchmarked on clinical and business performance with the best independent optometric practices in Australia.  We employ optometrists who demonstrate the highest quality of clinical care and we support and encourage their continuing professional development.   We continually invest in new technology and pursue new vision care procedures. Optomeyes optometrists regularly co-manage their patients with the patient's general practitioner and ophthalmologist.

Our Philosophy

In an era when optometry is tending to a retail-only focus, the management of Optomeyes has continued to emphasise the importance of clinical knowledge and integrity in running its practices. After all, no health issue is more important than your eyesight.

It is our belief that everyone, everywhere should be able to see life in its full richness, detail and splendour. At Optomeyes we literally 'optimise' your vision - and our brand promise is that you will See Life Differently.

Alongside this vision of clinical excellence, we hire experts in fashion and frame design to ensure that our range is at the cutting edge of international design concepts. We believe quality eyewear should be functional as well as aesthetically complementary to your face and allow you to express your unique personality.

Then and Now

Optomeyes is wholly owned and operated by optometrists who work in the practice. The partners are Ian Bourchier, Greg Dennis, Susan Sluce, Heath Davis, Andrew Hogan, Daryl Guest and Ian Abraham.  The origins of Optomeyes were established in Hobart in 1904, creating the foundation for the first Optometric practice in Tasmania.  From these early roots we continued to grow by acquiring and establishing new practices.

In 1996 Optomeyes was officially formed by the merger of optometric practices Rees & Bourchier with Dennis & MacCana.  Further mergers and acquisitions included Peter Fisher Optometrists, Launceston, in 1998, Abraham Optometrists, Devonport, in 2000, and more recently Daryl Guest Optometrists, Somerset and Penguin, and Liley & Paprocki, Burnie (formerly David Balon) and Wynyard, in 2003.

Now the biggest we have ever been and thriving in the Tasmanian market, we offer an even greater range of optometric expertise, experience and products, and take great pride in being able to service Tasmanians with a high-quality care.

Clinical Excellence

Optomeyes' focus is on the provision of the best possible clinical care utilising the most recent in optical technologies and we employ optometrists with a passion for clinical care.  We also provide the widest range of personal eyewear in Tasmania, holding exclusive rights to distribution of a number of well known brands and having preferred supplier status with many other brands.

We provide an extensive selection of spectacle frames and lenses, contact lenses, sunglasses, ocular prosthetics (artificial eyes), low vision aids and other vision associated accessory products.  The ophthalmic manufacturers recognise our position and have given us Tasmanian exclusivity for certain products.

We are often approached to undertake clinical trials of new products and to present seminars on findings of product trials, consequently, maintaining a high awareness within Optomeyes of developments in the ophthalmic product field.

Art & Science: We believe eyewear should take advantage of the latest in design ideas and technological advancements - but they should also allow you to make a statement. Enlarge Image
